Default Premium or Regular Gas and Impact on Transmission...

I understand, though recommended by Kia, the K900 can run on regular within a slight degradation in MPG. Noticed one other thing: when using regular gas, the transmission shifts tend to be rougher at times (not always, usually from idle to start of acceleration) with the engine rev up unnecessarily and then drop back to normal.

Chat w/ the dealership service mgr and he recommended I switched back to premium. Did for a while and indeed the frequency of rough shifts was down, but not totally gone.

Anyone else experienced this? I seemed to remember reading there is a flash update of the transmission softward code of something like that...

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

After I had the K900 (V8) For about 5000 miles I noticed the same thing on regular and sometimes on premium.
Dealership reprogramed transmission, ( dealership said to factory specs).
I found if I used discount regular gas it happened sometimes, but if I use top tier gas rough shifts stopped.
I tried regular to see how the car would act, manual recommends premium but car can run on regular.
I now try to run only premium top tier gas. Some times hard to find on a trip.

I didn't find that I get better gas mileage on premium than I do with regular. I was reading some articles that did test reviews on the K900, and they reach the same conclusion. Also, I haven't noticed much difference in the engine performance either, but then again I recently got computer updates for the car at the dealership. As for gas, I switch between premium and regular (depends on how much money I want to spend). Most gasoline if pretty clean regardless of the grade nowadays.

I think it's all just a huge trap. I mean, obviously premium petrols and gas is going to be better for the car and its emissions and all that, but your car will still be pretty decent on a lower grade as long as you're servicing and maintaining it regularly right?

Have been using regular exclusively in the past few months. Still got some jerks on transmission but frequency is way down. I suppose the car's transmission mapping is getting used to the fuel it has been fed...

Not worth paying 25-50cents more per gallon for premium, especially when regular has all the same cleaning additives.
