Default Key Fob issue

Just started happening this week. After the car has been sitting for a few says, when I get in to start the car with the fob in my pocket, I get a message "Key Fob Not Present". I have to hit the start button a few more times before it finally finds it. I guess it could be a fob battery issue, but the fob itself works fine to lock, unlock etc.

But if it is the same day after already running the car, it starts up just fine the first time. Strange.

You have more than one fob to try. I guess first thing to try is a new battery in the fob. Let us know what you find

Joe,

I had exactly the same symptom with a Volkswagen Tiguan that I drove for the last year and 1/2. Not because I wanted to, because I had to take over of lease for a family member.

And yes it was battery.

So as oldbiker recommended try the other fob, if you have it. And if not just go ahead and replace the battery.

I did replace the battery in the fob. I happened to have the right one in my spare battery bucket.

The old one tested out at about half power remaining, so I guess that is enough for it to start acting up.

I don't know for sure if it fixed the issue yet, since I only drive on the weekends. I'm sure that's what it is though.

So, did the new battery fix the problem?

Apparently I check this forum about as often as I drive my car (about once per week).

But yes, new battery in the fob seems to have solved the issue.
