What do you mean by a "new chip"? As in a software update? How and where did you get this "new chip"?

My car is a 2016, which has the touch-screen. I was assuming all along that they just pasted the new screen on the old system, but I'm beginning to deduce now that it must have been a bigger change than that. The update kit I got says specifically it's only for 2016-2018 models. (Funny that Kia failed to notice they didn't market a 2018!)

When I took to comparing pictures of the two years, I noticed something I hadn't seen before--there is not a place to put a chip in the front of the unit on the 2015--the best pix I could cobble together attached.

Mousing around the map update site, I found that ordering for the two years is quite different.

The 2015 page instructs you to use a USB stick:
https://www.kia-gpsmap.us/map-update...-2015-v12.html

While the 2016 one says to use an SD card--which is what I should have called my update instead of a chip:
https://www.kia-gpsmap.us/map-update...-2016-v12.html

(BTW, mdude, although CarMax got it for me, I'm sure they just ordered here--what I see on the page is what I got.)

So we may be talking different languages here, folks. All I can say is, if you have the SD slot and you put in the version 12 card, you'll have signs. Lots of signs!

As regards the USB update kind, I don't know.

Sorry if I misled anybody.

(Later--wait, I found a pic that shows the SD slot much better--attached.)

Thanks for taking the time to research and post the info. I've a '15... Yep, search around the dash and owner's manual and didn't find any mention of SD slot.
Suppose there's a way to refresh the software at the dealer.

Default S/D card

check the S/D cover just below CD slot, in the center of the slot

I looked around and cannot see any SD cover for my MY'15 like what Intender posted for MY'16.
Also checked the owner's manual and there is no mention of SD.

The 2015 K900 does not use an SD card for nav. That change occurred with the 2016 model year. 2015 K900 nav updates use data on a USB stick plugged into the USB port in the center console.

Correct. That is one of the first things I learned, from the local KIA dealer sales guy no less, when I took my first K900 test drive in a new 2017 last year. He actually tried to sell me on the fact that the displays were updated on the 2017's, compared to the 2015's. It just wasn't enough to justify the $20k difference in price.

So does this mean the '15 K900 doesn't get the signs in the update, or just that it's updated via USB instead of SD card?
Also do you get Android Auto & Carplay in the '15 update?

2015 version update simply not as detailed. No signs, and no Apple or Android.
