credit card smart key

Something I haven't been able to nail down in my research--when can you expect a car to have the credit card smart key?

The factory literature is a bit contradictory. The 2015 book shows it standard on the V8s and optional as part of the Luxury package on the V6s.

In 2016, it still shows as a V8 standard, but N/A on either Luxury or Premium V6's.

For 2017, it's not mentioned at all.

I've noticed that dealers very rarely mention or picture this, even though there's a (relative) plethora of 2015 V8s for sale. I think it's odd, because usually if a car has all its remotes, etc., that's a selling point.

Can anybody give me the real scoop?

Don't know about which models have or had the smart key. My used 2015 with VIP did not have the smart key with it; my dealer quoted over $600 to replace it and told me they usually are never present with the car for resale. Probably any auction or sales people keep them for resale with reprograming. Never had any interest myself in having it.
Still love the car!

My used 2015 V8 VIP came with the credit card key. I find it pretty handy. I carry a lot of things in my pockets, so it's nice if I can reduce the bulk a bit. And since it lives in my wallet and it means I pretty much always have my car key on me.

Per Kia's documentation:
2015: V8 Luxury only, not available on the V8 Premium (V6 introduced in US for 2016 MY)
2016: V8 Luxury only, not available on V6 models
2017: No mention of the credit card smartkey, so I suspect it is no longer available as of the 2017 MY

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll be asking about this with every car I look at now.

My 2015 Kia K900 VIP model came with it.

My 2015 K900 V8 came with the card.
When I turned in the car for my new car
the dealership just threw the credit card key to the side
didn't even keep it with the other keys.
As some of you know I traded the K900 for a 2018 Genesis
V8 ultimate. Love the style of the K900, but no one in the
area had a new 2018 or even a 2017 configured they way we wanted.
When my lease is up, may get a new K900 if they get their act together
by then.

My CPO MY'15 V8 VIP came with the smart keycard.

Battery is dead and I've a hard time trying to find a replacement battery -- not even BatteryPlus carries it. It can order online but costs a fortune.

I think my dealer says around $65 if they order it but they said it never works well and discourage their customers from pursuing it, which seems believable as Kia stopped that feature in the latest model year...

Mine was dead when I got it as well, but I had no problem finding a replacement. It takes a CR2412 3v lithium battery. They are not all that uncommon. You can get them on Amazon for about $6. Even my local Walmart has them.

This is very strange, not only did mine work for the entire 3 years I had the car, but once I washed my jeans with the remote inside, and it went through the washer and dryer and still worked fine when it came out. lol

Thank you, brothers! I've simply been taking the dealer's words and didn't check the actual cost of replacement battery. Just got one for <$7 at Amazon. Key card comes alive. Now I can ditch the fob for the card! One less piece to haul around.
