the 8-speed automatic
 

Folks, how do we feel about this transmission? Good, bad, indifferent, or as they say about other relationships, "it's complicated"--?

I have the first-gen K, as you can see with my signature, but I believe this is the same unit in the gen 2 cars--I think it goes into every Hyundai/Kia, actually. So we should all have pretty comparable hardware.

I'll hold my comments until the members have had a chance to sound off.

See I drove hyundai 8-speed for different genration. every genration behave diffrenet from each others from software and enahncement done to reudce fraction and lag. the best 8-speed for 2022 and 2017+ found on genesis G90+ G80. 8-speed found in K900 it's stupidily programmed at luanch the transmission will not hoild hold 1st for enough time it will shift up at specific speed not matter what you are doing.

Anyway, Sayed-Mohd, I think you are probably right--it's all in the programming. The K's unit certainly won't hold first long unless you paddle shift, and then after that it usually seems confused about what gear to get in.


I've found if by sheer random chance you catch it in the right gear, it'll zoom off and you'll feel all that 420 horsepower. But if the transmission has to click off a few gears first, it feels downright sluggish.


But, I guess nothing's perfect. Overall, the car is still pretty great.
