However, then I saw the Carfax. (Which, to do the dealer justice, they have linked up without charge.) No fewer than two disabling accidents (had to be towed), one in front and one in back, and then another lesser one in the back also. Good grief, this thing is cursed!

But it raises an interesting question--would you prefer a high-mileage but unmolested and well-maintained example, like the one in Memphis we were talking about, or a lower-mileage one that's led a rough life?
Yeah, I'd pass on one that had been in 2 serious collisions. If I had to choose between 2 otherwise identical cars, one high mileage, well maintained with no accidents, or a low mileage one with multiple serious accidents, I'd definitely choose the high mileage unmolested one.
