Default Hyundai and Kia developing turbocharged 3.0L V6

A new turbocharged petrol V6 is under development at the Hyundai-Kia empire. The new engine is expected to debut in the next-gen Hyundai Genesis Coupe, a car that is destined for Australia.

The engine will be a 3.0-litre V6 force-fed by a single turbocharger. It will replace the current 3.8-litre naturally aspirated V6 that powers the Genesis sedan and coupe, as well as the Kia Quoris sedan.
Specific details on the engine are yet to be announced, however, it is expected to feature ‘GDI’ direct injection and a variable geometry turbocharger, both of which will help keep fuel consumption to a minimum while maintaining a reasonably high level of performance.
Speaking of performance, the new engine is set to produce around 260kW, an increase of around 12kW from the current 3.8. Torque will likely be the key increase though, boosted from the current 395Nm figure.
With the additional torque on board, the Genesis Coupe will more than likely sprint from 0-100km/h much more quickly. The current 3.8 version covers the dash in 5.9 seconds.
Of course, the whole purpose of going turbo will be to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. According to reports the new engine’s consumption could be as low as 7.1L/100km on the combined cycle.
A concrete market introduction for the new engine, in terms of timing, is still yet to be announced. We’ll be sure to keep you updated.
